1

a) Pick a large company that you think you might like to work for. Find out about the departments in the company and write a description of what each department does.

b) Write a ‘flow plan’ to show how the departments all fit together to make the company run successfully.

c) Highlight the skills you think are needed by the people working in each department. Explain why they need these skills – what will they be contributing to the department?

d) Identify which department you would be most interested in working in. Why? What could you bring to the team and department as a whole?

e) List the courses or qualifications you might need to be able to work in that department?

2

Think about a large cosmetics company. New products are being developed all the time because people want to look after themselves and to feel good, for example: anti-ageing creams, sun care products, new colour cosmetics. Your classmates are the directors of the company. You have developed a new product and you are making a presentation to these directors. Present:

  • a new name

  • a package design

  • an advertising poster

  • a slogan or logo

  • an explanation of why people should buy your product.

Don’t forget to focus on what area and/or type of person you are aiming your product at!

3

Choose and describe a current TV or printed advertisement that you think does a good job of promoting a cosmetic product. Explain why you think this advert is so effective.

4

Compile a class list of products or services that use famous people in their advertising. List the celebrities involved. Discuss why you think each company chose that celebrity.

5

Pick five products, companies or services available. Then, describe the type of person (or celebrity), that you think should be associated with each one. Explain why.
