Government research
has shown that many people in Britain are becoming
overweight and unhealthy. ”Tackling Obesity
in England - 2001”, a report from the National
Audit Office, concluded that there is a problem
of obesity among the British population. 1 in
5 adults are obese. This has increased greatly
since 1980 and looks set to be 1 in 4 by 2010.
Already British figures are the highest in Europe.
What do you think has caused this to happen in
Britain? What can be done to make things change
for the better?

Some doctors and
hospitals have discussed a very controversial
idea that they will only treat people who try
to look after themselves, either by losing weight
or by stopping smoking. Do you think this is fair?
Prepare an argument either for or against this
idea.

are becoming concerned with how teenagers are
coping with health problems, especially stress
and worries. What do you think are the main things
teenagers worry about? What can be done to help
teenagers cope with these worries?
