Be hot! Stay cool!

Be hot! Stay cool!

Humans manage to survive in conditions on Earth that vary from -50°C to +50°C and that’s not all due to what our skin can do. Humans need to use their brains to find ways to cope in extreme temperatures e.g. Inuits in Greenland wear lots of fur and build warm fires in insulated igloos, whilst nomads in the Sahara rest in the middle of the day and shade their bodies from the heat of the sun.

Plants and animals can also survive in extreme temperatures if they are adapted to cope e.g. polar bears have lots of thick, long fur to keep them warm as well as subcutaneous fat to insulate their internal organs, and cactus plants in the desert have a thick waxy cuticle and small surface area to prevent water loss.

Drag and drop the reasons why you think these organisms can survive in their environment.
