When bacteria attack

When Bacteria Attack: Teeth

Bacteria attack our teeth by feeding off food remains in our mouths (particularly sugar) to create an acid that corrodes into teeth’s enamel and underlying dentine. Therefore we should regularly brush our teeth to remove food and plaque (plaque is a mixture of food, salivary mucus and bacteria).

Dentists usually recommend you to use a toothpaste containing fluoride as this makes teeth enamel more resistant to attack by the bacteria’s acid. Using mouthwash can also help to remove and kill the bacteria. Using dental floss can help get food and plaque out of the hard to reach areas in the mouth.
