Barefacts

Bare Facts gives an introduction to the science behind popular
cosmetics and personal care products and asks students to consider
the manufacturing and marketing of cosmetic products.

The site is primarily aimed at KS3 Science and Design and Technology students (although it is also suitable for Foundation Level KS4). The
topics covered may also be useful for work on personal care within the teaching of PSHE.

Students will be given a brief insight as to why we use certain products and how they have become commonplace in most households.
Within the Science section of the site there is an opportunity to see how these products work with our bodies. Within Design and Technology, students learn how these products are manufactured and packaged to be appealing to consumers in the retail environment.

This site can be used in an interactive ICT session or sections can be printed off as information or homework sheets. There are also some practical activities that may prove useful in a science club or science fair setting.
